May 23rd

Hello,

I'm not in today so please follow this:

Find a group to work with, no more than 4 to a group.
We will continue the movie on Thursday, but remember, we have a quiz on Thursday about the characters, who they are and which family they belong to.

Here is your assignment.

Romeo and Juliet – Group Assignment Grade 9
Due: June 20th
Member’s Names

Act _____   Scene _______  Lines _______ to ________

Directions:
Choose a scene from Romeo and Juliet.  Translate the text using modern language (This means you can use everyday language, gangster language, Southern U.S. accent, British Accent etc. )  as it would sound in today’s world.  Present the scene to the class in a live performance or recorded video.

Guidelines:

Divided into groups
Length – 3-10 minutes
All members must have lines to say and present them (yes, you may use paper to read from, however, please try to memorize your lines as best as possible because it presents better).
One copy to be handed in to Mr. Boyd with everyone’s signature of a translated version of the scene you and your group are presenting.
Please write down the Act and the scene your group will be performing at the top. Make sure you are not doing the same scene as another group.
It is very important to know where each character will move, so make sure you are able to coordinate your movements on stage.

You will be given two classes to work on this project May 23rd and June 1st

Dramatic Performance Assignment for "Trifles"

Your presentation will be due Friday, March 3rd.  Your presentation should be no more than 10 minutes long. You have today and next Thursday to work on your presentation.

Good luck!

Trifles by Susan Glaspell
Dramatic Dialogue Presentation

Sometimes authors use dramatic pieces to deliver certain messages about society, politics, economics or for humor.  The focus of this term is on Allusion, Irony and reflection in a variety of texts.  The author of Trifles, Susan Glaspell uses dialogue to point out differences and issues in society.  It is important to note that not all messages are clear so it is important to read the dialogue carefully.

Your Assignment:

In groups of 5, already assigned by Mr. Boyd, you are to present a particular scene in the play which demonstrates a focus on Allusion, Irony or reflection (choose one within your pages).  At the same time, it should be obvious about a theme which may be an injustice, issue, a social problem etc.  Remember to only do one scene.  Each member should have a role in the drama.  This doesn’t mean each person has to speak but they must contribute to the scene somehow and it is obvious to the audience.
This story is about putting clues together and inferring what happened or what is about to happen.  Pay close attention to the dialogue for clues on what kind of comments the author is making indirectly.

Each group must cover one set of pages.
1. pg. 773- end of 775 (Kevin, Wilson, Ricky, Isa, Tiffany)
2. pg. 776 – end of 777 (Benjamin, Rick, Kent, Vic, Kevin)
3. pg. 778 – end of 781 (Brian, Summer, Denny, Jerry, Jason)
4. pg. 782 – end of story (Jim, Harrison, William, Phoebe, Judy)

When you and your group have decided on which pages you want to cover tell Mr. Boyd.  First come first serve.  Presentation Date: Friday, March 3rd
Please indicate which number your group will do.

Sherly’s Assignment
Trifles by Susan Glaspell

A). What does this play say about men? Women? How both men and women interact with each other?
B). In 2 paragraphs, analyze the relationship between two characters in the story.  Think about the conflict between them and possible reasons why they treat each other the way they do.
C). What kind of Irony is present in the play?  Explain your answer with examples.
D). What is the overall theme of this play? What does trifles mean?
E). Write a different ending from the one in the story and explain how this changes the play.

Exam Question

Congratulations!!

Your class has won today's challenge and here is one of the questions you can expect on the exam.

We have looked at rite of passage and point of view closely this term.  In “Brothers are the Same”, describe the point of view of the protagonist and how he felt about rite of passage.  (6 marks)

Unfortunately I can not answer any questions about this because it is on the exam.

Good luck!

One more hint, it might be in your best interest to understand what it means to have 'motivation'.
